First Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic’s life.
It means that person has received the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Most Catholic children receive their First Communion when they’re seven or eight years of age because this is considered the age of reason.
First Communion is a very important and holy day for Catholic children because they are receiving, for the first time, the body and blood of Jesus Christ. By continuing to receive Holy Communion for the rest of their lives, Catholics become one with Christ and believe they will share in His eternal life.
If your child is in school year 3 or above and is ready to receive these sacraments, please email the Cathedral Office admin@shrewsburycathedral.co.uk to confirm numbers and provide contact details, and come along to our first session on Saturday 27th January at 10:00am at Shrewsbury Cathedral.
This is for families who were halfway through their preparations and children who are yet to begin. We would be grateful if you could sign up as soon as possible and before Christmas.
Confirmation is a sign that a person has reached maturity and is now able to take responsibility for their own faith. It also strengthens and deepens the connection to the Church that is established at baptism.
Confirmation candidates: If you are in Year 8 and above and would like to prepare for your Confirmation then please write to Canon Christopher at Cathedral House, giving your name and contact details and those of your parents so we can let you have more details. The first session will take place on
Sunday 30 January from 4pm finishing with Mass at 6pm.
